They reduce dust and dirt accumulation and maximize air circulation and visibility. Shelves adjust on 1" centers, no tools required simply snap our two piece tapered clip around the groove (numbered) post, slide shelf over clip. The tapered clip matches the taper of the shelf corners so shelf becomes more secure as load increases.
